The Deffend Domaine, Poitiers University's botanical garden, displays a number of different plant species. The site is a 33 hectare estate of the 17th and 18th C, surrounded by trees, conducting experiments in plant ecology. The goal of the Garden is to conserve and help sustain the plant heritage of the region, developing collections following various themes. These are medicinal, vegetables for food, an arboretum, two orchards and a rose garden.
