This ancient fortress was built around 1040 by Foulques Nerra.

There is a breathtaking view from the top of the tower, of the town, and of the crossroads between Anjou, Touraine and Poitou. From the top you can see Loudun with its historic winding streets, slate and tiled roofs and religious monuments . The visitor must climb 150 steps to reach the top. Ceramic panoramic tables point out places and monuments of interest.

At the foot of the tower, you can visit the Medieval-style gardens.

Loudun Théophraste Renaudot's home town has many architectural sites (some dating from Medieval times) for you to discover as you stroll along the winding streets.
