Nouaillé-Maupertuis owes its fame to the Battle of Poitiers in 1356, when John the Good was taken prisoner by the English. Every year in May and June, there is a medieval fair, which shouldn't be missed.
Visit the fortified Romanesque Abbey and its medieval garden. There are many marked-out paths around the abbey.
Possibilty of guided tours with the Service d'Animation et de Valorisation du Patrimoine . Also, it is possible to freely visit the Abbey grounds, the forest known as Bois de la Garenne, and the battle ground which is marked by an enamel information post.
