Tourism Office of Lusignan

Lusignan is  situated between Poiters and Niort, in the region of the legendary mermaid Mélusine.  A Green Holiday destination, the town was famous in the Middle Ages as the homeland of the Lords of Lusignan, kings of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia.

Throughout the year the Tourist Office welcomes vistors to the ancient chateau of  Mélusine.  It offers the following:

- a programme of exhibitons of local artists

- guided tours by reservation of the chateau, the church at Jazeneuil

- during the summer season, guided tours at 6.30 pm under the auspices of "Les Mardis du Patrimoine" (Heritage Tuesdays).

Numerous cultural events take place throughout the summer, for example, "Summer  Mélusine" and Cinema, the Charibaudes festival of circus and street theatre, medieval festivals, the melon festival in Coulombiers, and cultural evenings in Sanxay.

The covered marketplace in Rouillé is the home of the largest market in the area, every Friday morning. In Lusignan, the market is on Wednesdays.

Don't miss the Gallo-Roman site, and the chateau of Marconnay in Sanxay, the contemporary space in Rurart in Rouillé, the site of Malvaux in  Cloué, the wetlands of Coulombiers, the roman bridge in Celle l'Evescault, the Church of John the Baptiste with its contemporary stained glass windows in Jazeneuil., the 18th Century chateau that has been transformed into the hotel **** of Curzay-sur-Vonne.

Also, explore the historic centre of Lusignan, the Romanesque Church of Saint Junien, the crypt beneath the chancel, a Northern doorway with its bestiary, the,covered market dating from the 19th Century, and the permanent exhibitionof The Lusignans and Mélusine.
