Tourism Office of Loudun

Loudun, Renaudot's home town, has numerous architectural treasures (some dating back to the Middle Ages) which you can discover as you stroll along the narrow and quaintly named streets.

Come and explore : - La Porte du Martray, built in the 13th century, it was the last of the gateways closing the city . - La Tour Carrée - a Square Tower (11th. century) - The Chapel of  Sainte-Croix - where restoration work has newly unveiled 12th and 13th century murals. - The House of Roman Art  - a collection of outstanding Roman columns and the Renaudot Museum, birthplace of the father of French journalism.

Also, don't miss : - The Aquarium - a collection of exotic fish in fifteen fish tanks. - La Promenade Foulque Nerra - A walk through parks and gardens which gives an impression of the old fortified castle, dismantled in 1628.

This town is the starting point of many marked hiking trails.

Local accommodation: hotels, campsite, bed and breakfast.

The tourist information office can organise guided tours of the town, the castle and Chapel Sainte Croix with advanced booking. For group rates, please enquire for more information.

Town market on Tuesday.
