Tourism Office of Ligugé

This village is located in the centre of a valley next to the Clain River, and famous for its Benedictine Abbey - the first monastery to be founded in Gaul in 361 A.D. by Saint Martin.

Today, visitors can only have access to the new Abbey church (1927), where they can attend services and visit the gallery of enamel work, hand made by the monks.

Nearby: the parish church near the monastery which was rebuilt in 1505 and where excavations, which began in 1953, have unearthed an exceptional number of pre-Roman buildings. Les Iles du Pont which is protected by the Poitou-Charente Conservatory of Natural Areas on account of its unusual geology.

Accommodation: hotel.

The tourist office is at your service for further information.
