Tourism Office of Châtellerault

Situated on the edge of Poitou and at the intersection of the Vienne, Clain, Envigne and Ozon Rivers, Châtellerault has, since the Middle Ages, always known how to take advantage of its unique position and develop its inland waterways transport, cutlery, tanning, and rope-making industries - ancient professions which today have disappeared.

The Armoury was founded by royal charter at the time of the Industrial Revolution and enjoyed great success thanks to the skill of its workers. While closed since 1968, it houses the Auto Motorbike and Bike Museum.

Discover the town's superb architectural history, its museums and gardens, the lake and the forest. All in all, a town you can't afford to miss!

Nearby is the Vieux Poitiers - an important 80 hectare Gallo-Roman archaeological site.

Activities: mountain-biking or hikling along the many trails around Châtellerault or try canoeing or the motor boats on the Vienne river.
