Under renovation, closed to the public in 2008. Reopening in June 2009 It is said that Madame de Montespan, a favourite of Louis the 14th, was born in this medieval house that once belonged to the Rochechouart-Mortemart Family. Exhibits in the museum date back to prehistoric times displaying: bones, animals, lithic and bone tools, jewellery, and limestone tablets engraved with drawings of animals and humans. There are also various temporary exhibits to see. Also to visit: the Ancient Tool Museum. In close proximity : the Civaux Cultural Centre and Montmorillon's City of the Written Word and Book Crafts.
