Notre Dame Church - La Chapelle Morthemer - Valdivienne
The charming church of Notre Dame was built during the 11th, 12th, and 15th centuries. The porch is surmounted by a bell tower with a stone steeple. The nave extends to a Romanesque sanctuary, where the chancel has sculpted modillions, some of which are decorated with picturesque faces or entire bodies proving how imaginative the early medieval sculptors were! There is also a 17th century Virgin Mary and Child statue in polychrome wood from the 17th century.
Nearby: the medieval town of Chauvigny and its spectacular bird show, Les Géants du Ciel .
