THE ABBEY - Saint-Benoît

The abbey was founded in the 7th century by Saint-Achard destroyed in the 9th century, and then rebuilt between the 11th and 12th centuries. Among the conventual buildings of the abbey, the only remaining buildings are the chapter house with its beautiful carved chapels and the old dormitory of the monks with its framework resembling a reversed boat hull. Currently, restoration is being carried out with the Bâtiments de France following the restoration of the church (1971 to 1984), and the abbey home of the impasse du Prieuré , thus completing a medieval architectural unit of historical and cultural value. It offers many expositions and demonstrations and is a meeting place for community associations. The cross-shaped garden is magnificently restored and offers you a quiet and relaxing spot. Access is free and handicap accessible for people with reduced mobility thanks to an installed elevator.
