The sheer size of the cathedral makes it the most imposing building in Poitiers. Built towards the end of the 12th century by Eleanor of Aquitaine, this Angevin Gothic-style cathedral has an exceptional facade with a rose window and three arched entry doors which also display the influence of a Parisian Gothic style. A collection of 18 stained glass windows from the first half of the 12thC illuminate the inside of the chancel. Be sure to notice the very beautiful stained glass window in the inside of the chancel dating from the 12thC. The 12thC choir stalls are among the oldest in France, and the 17th century organ is the lovely work of Cliquot.
