A splendid example of Poitou Romanesque architecture, the site dates back to the beginning of the 12th century and belonged to the abbey at Fontevrault. The cloisters and monastic buildings built around the church were overseen by the prioress. The main gate of the hospice, bearing a lion, can still be visited. Within the church, a collection of paintings including a 16th century painting from the Flemish school.. The church square courtyard and gardens have been recently restored for the visitor to imagine what the peaceful monastic life was like.
To see: the 17th century dovecot standing between the men and women's cloisters. Not to miss : the walks along the banks of the Envigne River and the famous fairs and markets at Lencloitre. Nearby : Scorbé-Clairvaux with its chateaux, dungeon and chess museum.
