The oldest part of the church dates back to a pagan temple of  Merovingian times. Excavations have revealed merovingian sarcophogi.  The chancel of the church is from merovingian times. The funerary stele from the Christian era set in the inside chancel wall shows that a Christian community already existed in Civaux as early as 400 AD. To see as well: the baptismal font next to the church, the necropolis with its Merovingian sarcophagi, the cultural centre and to relax, visit the Abyssea Aquatic Center. Nearby : Lussac les Châteaux and its Stone Age Museum, and Montmorillon and the Village of the Written Word.
