There was already a parish in this area in 980.  At that time Bonneuil had a priory which was dependent on the abbey of St. Cyprien in Poitiers.  This explains the importance of the chancel of the church with stall dating back to the romanesque period. The nave was reconstructed after 1850. The Church dedicated to St Peter dates from the 12th C. The decorations are remarkable: historical chapels and modillions, pearl ribbons animated by birds or fantastic monsters.
