The Château des Ormes dominates the Vienne Valley, was constructed by Colbert's uncles, the Pussorts brothers, in 1642. It was expanded in 1729 by Marc-Pierre Voyer d'Argenson, the friend of enlighteners and philosophers dedicated an encyclopaedia to him. The chateau has hosted many famous individuals including Voltaire. The château is now open to the public who can visit the big marble gallery, the high reception rooms, the original 17th and the 18th century kitchens, as well as the recently remodelled 17th century ice room.
