This chateau was originally a fortified manor, but eventually used as a hunting lodge. In the 16th century, the chateau was a rectangular-shaped home, with one side of its facade set against a great square tower and the other against a round tower surrounding a spiral staircase. Restoration work in 1875 left these features and the machicolated dovecot in their original state. The lovely 30 ha park has many ancient oak and chestnut trees. The chateau is also a historic site of the Resistance movement during World War II. Not to miss: The rich architectural heritage of Montmorillon and its City of the Written Word and Book Crafts.
