CHIRE CASTLE - Chiré-en-Montreuil

The 15th century château and fortified wall built around a square tower with a 60 meter underground escape passage, stands high above the village on a rocky cliff. Today, the property belongs to the village and is presently undergoing restoration and archeological research. Nearby : the charming town of Vouillé, the Tanners' Village at Lavasseau , the state owned Vouillé-Saint Hilaire Forest 1500 ha.), lively Ayron recreation centre.
