Experience life in feudal times thanks to this majestic chateau set in the heart of Poitou's cereal plain, but far from the clichés of castle life. Standing in the centre of Acadia, the chateau achieved its pinnacle of glory in the 17th century when Richelieu decided to colonise the uncultivated lands of 'New France'. The château has a splendid octagonal dovecot dating from the 14th century. Also to see: the Acadian Museum in La Chaussée, Loudun - the home of Renaudot - and the Guesnes and Moncontour leisure areas.
