In one of the prettiest villages in France, the proud ruins of this 12th century fortified castle stand on a rocky hill overlooking the Anglin River. A stairway takes you up to the chapel where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Anglin Valley and the Sainte-Croix Quarter with its superb plain tile roofed houses and Romanesque Church.
Also to see : the Village of Angles, the Jours d'Angles workshop demonstrating how traditional fine pulled-thread embroidery has proliferated since the time of Napoleon III when over 300 embroiderers worked to supply the grand Parisian shops. T
The Roc aux Sourciers offers a facsimile of the magdalenian sculptured caves, which were discoverd in the village in 1950
Nearby in St-Savin, the Abbey with its 12th century frescoes is a UNESCO World Heritage listed site. La Roche-Posay, a lively spa town, is also nearby.
