The plateaux between the Clain and Clouère Rivers were inhabited by Man as early as the early Palaeolithic era and with the advent of agriculture in the Neolithic age, Man founded early settlements there. The ruins of the Arlait Dolmen show the existence of an important necropolis with more than 100 tombs dating from 3500 B.C. Nearby: the ruins of the château, the lantern for the dead, and the Château Larcher Church.
